AV Launches Next-Generation VAPOR CLE, Compact Long Endurance Helicopter UAS

VAPOR CLE adds autonomy, reduces size and weight, increases flight duration and payload flexibility

ARLINGTON, Va. – October 13, 2025 – AeroVironment, Inc. (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in all-domain defense systems, today announced the release of its newest all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platform–the VAPOR Compact Long Endurance (CLE) unmanned aircraft system (UAS).

Building on the proven performance of previous VAPOR models, the VAPOR CLE helicopter sets a new standard for Group 2 UAS with a more compact, enduring, and mission-ready design with on-board computer integration that transforms the VTOL into a fully autonomous system. VAPOR CLE supports multi-mission operations–from intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and electronic warfare (EW) to precision strike and logistics resupply.

“Every detail of the VAPOR CLE reflects an upgrade driven by real-world mission needs,” said Jason Hendrix, Vice President of Small Uncrewed Systems for AV. “By doubling endurance, increasing lift, and adding onboard autonomy, we’ve transformed the system into a combat-ready tool that gives warfighters more capability in a smaller, more adaptable package.”

The newly integrated NVIDIA ORIN onboard computer makes the VAPOR CLE fully autonomous and enables Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) through AV_Halo VISION (previously AV’s SPOTR-Edge™) computer vision software and WISARD™ Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) processing suite. The compact packout case measures 7 cubic feet and weighs 35 pounds—a 50% reduction from earlier models—with tool-less assembly, making it ideal for transport and rapid deployment. It delivers up to two hours of persistent flight—double the endurance of typical Group 2 quad rotor-craft platforms.

Built with a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) to support third-party integration, VAPOR CLE integrates with 26 unique payloads– including optical sensors, communications relays, electronic warfare, and integrated lethal payloads, including the Orbital Research Lab 60/81mm mortar CLiK (DEVCOM AC standardization) and Corvid Shryke Guided Munition and IS4S 40mm munition. The VAPOR CLE is compatible with AV_Halo COMMAND tactical handheld controller and is worldwide operational frequency capable with an encrypted data link that can transmit classified information to distances greater than 10km line of sight.

“We built the VAPOR CLE around what warfighters told us they needed most—more time over target, greater lift for mission-critical payloads, and a system rugged enough to survive the toughest environments,” said Jason Wright, AV’s senior product line manager. “Those upgrades mean troops can carry less gear, set up faster, and count on a single platform to perform multiple roles in the field.”

AV Awarded New Firm‑Fixed‑Price Option for Two BADGER Phased Array Systems, Strengthens Production Framework for SCAR Program

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, September 19, 2025 – AeroVironment, Inc. (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV), a leading provider of advanced space and ground-based satellite communication technologies, is proud to announce a new firm‑fixed‑price (FFP) contract option with the U.S. Space Force Space Rapid Capabilities Office for the delivery of two BADGER phased array antenna systems to support the Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource (SCAR) program.

This award represents the first FFP option being executed against the SCAR Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) to enhance the system performance and operational readiness to aid in swift deployment and operational resilience. Future production options remain open for additional SCAR systems.

To meet the increasing demand signal and reinforce production pipelines for BADGER, AV has expanded manufacturing agreements with several key suppliers. This new framework strengthens the BADGER supply chain and ensures current and future orders for the SCAR program are backed by a robust, scalable production infrastructure—accelerating delivery timelines to meet operational demands. These steps will help drive cost and schedule uncertainty out of the program while delivering operational capability to the Space Force.

“We are delivering unmatched technological superiority to usher in a new era of advanced satellite command and control,” said Wahid Nawabi, AV Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “With confidence in the technology and a steadfast commitment to delivering this critical national security priority, our team is scaling BADGER production to match the operational tempo demanded by the Space Force.”

Most key development milestones for the SCAR program have already been completed. AV will deliver the first BADGER unit to the Space Force in the coming months, with more units nearing completion for delivery in early 2026 to support full-scale overseas deployment.  The first system’s Mission Support Container, including electronics and software that control the BADGER units, was delivered this summer–ahead of schedule–and is ready for final integration testing.

“The urgent demand for SCAR is backed by a universal recognition of the expansive satellite tracking, telemetry, and control capabilities it will soon deliver to the Space Force,” said Mary Clum, Executive Vice President for AV’s Space and Directed Energy Group. “We understand. With the technology ready to scale, we have accelerated production and strengthened our supply chain to meet the demand. BADGER is ready. SCAR is coming.”

“The SCAR program is a system of systems that is both a revolutionary leap for satellite command and control and an urgent need to keep pace with the rapidly evolving, contested, congested space domain,” said Dr. Kelly Hammett, Director of the U.S. Space Force Space Rapid Capabilities Office. “We applaud the technical achievements of the AV team that have enabled this transformative moment for satellite communications along with their investments in automation, supply chain, and manufacturing that will serve to stabilize costs and increase scale long-term. When industry and government work together to tackle the toughest challenges, we can accomplish big things–and SCAR is certainly a testament to that strength.”

AV Signs Strategic Partnership with Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology

09/18/2025

AV Signs Strategic Partnership with Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology

TAIPEI, Taiwan, [September 18, 2025] — AeroVironment, Inc. (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in all-domain defense technologies, today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), a leading research and development institution under Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, to collaborate on autonomous systems and technology to support Taiwan’s defense and security needs.

Signed during this week’s Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE) 2025, the agreement establishes a framework for AV and NCSIST to jointly pursue opportunities to strengthen the lifecycle and sustainability of Taiwan’s unmanned and precision strike systems. Initially focused on AV’s JUMP® 20 and JUMP® 20-X vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fixed-wing platforms, AV will provide technical expertise, training, and proven sustainment processes to help NCSIST build infrastructure that enhances readiness and resilience on the island. Future efforts will include co-development of unmanned systems and collaboration around autonomy software.

The JUMP 20 system delivers advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities and unmatched adaptability to support a wide range of evolving mission demands. It has emerged as the global Group 3 platform of choice, with recently awarded contracts across Europe, including Denmark, Italy, and multiple other NATO allies.

“This partnership underscores AV’s long-term commitment to supporting the defense needs of Taiwan and our allies in the Indo-Pacific region,” said Justin McFarlin, Vice President of International Business Development for AV. “By combining the combat-proven effectiveness of AV systems with NCSIST’s advanced research and development capabilities, we are ensuring Taiwan can produce and sustain mission-critical systems, strengthen deterrence, and respond quickly to evolving threats.”

The MOU is part of an industrial participation or “offset” agreement tied to recent acquisitions and investments by the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense in AV’s uncrewed technology. In July 2024, AV announced U.S. State Department approval for a $60.2 million foreign military sale of the company’s Switchblade® 300 loitering munition systems to Taiwan. Last month, the Taiwanese government announced an expansive new procurement initiative for up to 100,000 UAS in order to defend its homeland and critical infrastructure.

“Taiwan has clearly signaled a demand to strengthen its domestic defense ecosystem and a desire to expand its self-reliance in defense production and lifecycle management,” said Brian Anderson, AV’s Director of International Business Development for Asia Pacific. “Through strong partnerships with our allies and partners–like NCSIST, AV is delivering mission-critical technologies and ensuring that systems already fielded around the globe remain ready and effective.”

09/12/2025

AV Expands Tomahawk Line with Future-Ready Grip TA5 Tactical Controller

The Grip TA5 was selected as the Dismounted Common Controller (DCC) as part of the $5.1M U.S. Army RCCTO Human-Machine Integrated Formations (HMIF) rapid prototyping project.

ARLINGTON, Va., [September 12, 2025] — AeroVironment, Inc. (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in all-domain defense technologies, today unveiled its Tomahawk Grip TA5. The Grip TA5 is an 8-inch tactical controller designed to deliver enhanced situational awareness, precision strike capabilities, and seamless scalability across mission sets for today’s modern warfighter.

Built to integrate with the military-grade Samsung Tab Active5 Tactical Edition, the Grip TA5 turns off-the-shelf tablets into mobile command centers. It’s modular architecture and multi-platform compatibility offers operators command and control of multiple robotic assets in real-time – enhancing mission adaptability and response speed. The system enables intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, target acquisition and tracking, situational command and control (C2), and fire control functions–enabling direct operation of lethal payloads, loitering munitions, and direct-fire weapons. At just 2.5 pounds, the compact, rugged controller meets MIL-STD-810 and adds enhanced software security, advanced networking, and hot-swapping flexibility—positioning AV as the permanent control layer regardless of the underlying device model.

“Our ability to deliver effective, next-generation solutions at mission scale and speed positions AV as a top developer and manufacturer in the defense industry,” said Trace Stevenson, President of Autonomous Systems for AV. “The Grip TA5 is more than a controller. It’s a force multiplier that brings speed, interoperability, and future-ready capabilities to the modern warfighter.”

In May, AV announced that its Tomahawk Ground Control Station (GCS) product line was awarded a $5.1 million contract by the U.S. Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) in support of the Human-Machine Integrated Formations (HMIF) rapid prototyping project. The Grip TA5 was officially selected as the Dismounted Common Controller (DCC) to advance human-machine teaming and strengthen battlefield command and control.

AV previously developed and delivered multiple iterations of prototypes based on the previous Samsung Tab Active3 as part of the United States Marine Corps’ Force Design 2030. The Grip TA5 leverages lessons learned from this work, adding the interoperability and multi-mission capabilities needed to meet requirements for the U.S. Army’s Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordinance (LASSO), Long Range Reconnaissance (LRR), and Launched Effects (LE) programs while still maintaining operability with USMC programs, like Marine Air-Ground Tablet (MAGTAB).

The Grip TA5 expands AV’s Tomahawk Ground Control Station product line, which also includes the Grip S20 designed around the Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition smart phone. Responding to operator feedback for larger screen sizes, the Grip TA5 offers a ruggedized and streamlined, cost-effective solution with an expandable port for dual 8-inch displays to boost visibility and efficiency. The controller will begin shipping as a standard catalog configuration or as an alternative option with AV platforms starting in late 2025.

“Developed for warfighters from warfighter feedback, the Grip TA5 highlights our focus on rapidly turning feedback into real, fielded innovation,” said John Bolen, AV’s Tomahawk GCS Product Line Manager. “By expanding screen size, enhancing networking, and offering scalability across clients, vehicles, and operations, we are giving soldiers a tactical edge on the battlefield.”

AV unveils new Hyperspectral Optical Radar (HSOR) payload for its JUMP 20 UAS, redefining autonomous Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions and equipping forces with comprehensive situational awareness across domains. [Credit: AV]

ARLINGTON, VA., September 11, 2025 – Today, AeroVironment (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV) unveiled the newest payload for its Group 3 JUMP 20 uncrewed autonomous system (UAS)–the Arkeus Hyperspectral Optical Radar (HSOR). The HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 redefines autonomous Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions and equips forces with comprehensive situational awareness across domains.

Integrating the autonomous, real-time Arkeus HSOR on the long-range, multi-mission AV JUMP 20 is a transformative step forward in reconnaissance technology. Built for congested and degraded visual conditions, the HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 offers long standoff and increased situational awareness in operational environments where visibility is limited, electromagnetic conditions are constrained, and payload flexibility is essential. Utilizing hyperspectral imaging to analyze materials’ unique spectral “fingerprint” enables rapid environmental analysis, including water depth, foliage density, subterranean activity, and more–day and night.

“The JUMP 20 is the first and only uncrewed platform to integrate Arkeus HSOR, which itself is the first real-time, wide-area scan, hyperspectral sensor,” said Trace Stevenson, President of Autonomous Systems for AV. “The technological innovation is groundbreaking and important. But most important is the capability we can now deliver to the warfighter.”

Leveraging an AI-driven data engine and rapid environmental assessments, the HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 provides operators with persistent detection, classification, location, and tracking of hundreds of contacts simultaneously–across land, sea, littoral, and transitional zones with no recalibration or hardware changes. With more than eight times the range in degraded visual environments as compared with traditional Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) sensors, it is ideal for wide-area ISR, maritime domain awareness, search and rescue, counter narcotics operations, border security, and more.

“This HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 heralds a new era in multi-mission operations for forces that prioritize situational awareness across domains as the cornerstone of operational success,” said Simon Olsen, President & CEO of Arkeus. “Together with AV, we are enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making processes for warfighters in contested, congested battlespaces.”

The JUMP 20 is a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), fixed-wing uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) that provides advanced multi-sensor ISR services. The system delivers 13+ hours of endurance with a Line of Sight (LOS) operational range of 185 km (100nm) and a Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) range of over 500nm. Operators can set it up and deploy it in less than 30 minutes without the need for launch or recovery equipment. With a 30-pound payload bay and common autopilot and ground control system architecture, the JUMP 20 is a highly customizable, modular platform that can be custom-configured to meet operational or customer requirements.
