The EV Ecosystem

A few years ago, we coined the term “EV Ecosystem” to describe the 360° approach we take to analyzing driver needs and meeting them with technical solutions and services that are intricately thought-out, designed, and tested – and continually vetted by real users. Now in 2011, I’m glad to see others in the EV space using the term – because we won’t be able to encourage rapid adoption of electric cars by real consumers unless we all take a more global approach to delivering practical solutions to real drivers.

As a product manager at AV, I spend the majority of my time trying to determine what our customers will want in the future and how these technologies will evolve and work together. As a product innovation company AV has exciting new products coming and second generation products on the horizon that I can’t wait for you to see. In this issue of AV Connect, you’ll read about the “Ecosystem” technologies that are on the EV road map for today and the near future.

You’ll also read about the Smart Grid, and how different charging systems support broad public infrastructure to supplement the home charging that takes place overnight. I hope you enjoy envisioning the future as much as I do – as an EV driver myself I’m counting down the days until the gas-powered car is the “odd man out” on the road. To get there, we’ll need the infrastructure, services, and support hardware to truly integrate this groundbreaking technology into our everyday lives.

My job is to see that this happens, and to take you – the EV driver – there with us, into the clean transportation future.

I hope you enjoy this peek into what will be, sooner than you think.
