Welcome!
I first learned about the amazing people and innovations at AeroVironment in 1987 as a young engineer at General Motors. That year, AeroVironment, GM, and Hughes Electronics collaborated on the Sunraycer, a solar powered vehicle that won the World Solar Challenge by a two-day margin. AV was surrounded by mystique, even for those of us in the auto industry. When I joined the AV team in 2008 to help build the company's consumer EV Solutions business, it felt like I was given access to a top secret lab. The truth behind the AV myth was far more interesting.
AV is about science, record-breaking vehicles, and innovation, but there is something else at work. Members of the AV family - not just business people, but physicists, accountants, engineers, and our customers - are passionate about developing practical, useful products that change the way we do things, for the better. Change the way we gather information, the way we conduct business, the way we drive. But the key here is enacting change. Not just thinking about it or talking about it, but doing it.
We are so fortunate to have nearly 40 years behind us - decades of research, business modeling, design and development, manufacturing, marketing, and serving our customers, both large and small. But what we really excites us is what lies ahead. Electric Vehicles for real drivers, like you and me, are here for the long haul. Come with us, and enjoy the ride.
